20th July 2015Oracle,Why? Why is is now mandatory to have the cluster management database as an Oracle CDB, with a PDB having the same name as the cluster? It’s not that I object to having another 1GB of memory lost to this DB, and up to 10GB of disk in the initial ASM Disk Group. It’s this:You have called it -MGMTDBThat means I now have directories all over my Linux / Unix structure called “-MGMTDB”.

Directories I may want to look in, to view a log to discovery why the “-MGMTDB” failed to create on install. That leading “ –“, that MINUS. That’s the problem. I can’t use normal commands any more!
It thinks the “-” is a switch and fails, unless I neutralise the “-” with a “–” prefix. oracle@vi-t5-oradev02 X$ ls -ltotal 4drwxrwxr-x 2 oracle oracle 4096 Jul 20 12:39 -MGMTDBoracle@vi-t5-oradev02 X$ cd -MGMTDBbash: cd: -M: invalid optioncd: usage: cd -L -P diroracle@vi-t5-oradev02 X$ cd '-MGMTDB'bash: cd: -M: invalid optioncd: usage: cd -L -P diroracle@vi-t5-oradev02 X$ cd.bash: cd: -M: invalid optioncd: usage: cd -L -P diroracle@vi-t5-oradev02 X$ cd - -MGMTDBFinally!SO, why wasn’t it a plus, like +ASM.
I realized that I was trying to start MGMTDB on a RAC node other than where MGMTLSNR (Oracle TNS Listener for Management Repository Database) was currently running. This actually means that we need to make sure that Management Listener To start MGMTDB, check on which node MGM Listener should be running on the RAC node where we are trying to.
A Trip Through the GIMR. In Grid Infrastructure 12.1.0.2, it is now required to use an Oracle database for the data store. This Oracle database is called the Grid Infrastructure Management Repository (GIMR). Many people are already aware that the GIMR runs with the database name “-MGMTDB” and runs on only one node of the GI cluster. This post validated Oracle note Doc ID 1589394.1.This note outlines the steps to move 12c GIMR (Grid Infrastructure Management Repository) to a different shared storage.
