I have retired from modding for CK2. If there is anyone who would like to make their own, updated version of this mod using my code as base, you have my permission to do so.
Make sure to send me a link so that I can post the link here in the description for others to see as an alternative to this.Thanks!-Compatible with Jade Empire (2.8)Tired of starting off an orphaned, only-child without any recollection of who your parents once were? Wouldn't you like some company as you begin your world-conquering? Maybe an older sister who serves as both best friend and advisor?
Or a little brother with a claim on your title to serve as your heir? Heck, I'd be satisfied with just a kind, caring mother (who I would never marry off to give me more siblings. Ok, maybe just another sister, please). What does it do?A Sensible New Family adds in a light-weight decision event at the start of any custom game (non-historical character using the character customizer) that allows you to select your ruler's origin story.

A random family is then generated for you, including a father (who may not always survive the event.), mother, and a sibling or two (or three or four). Your family will share similar traits, including personality (glutton father meet your glutton daughter) and physical traits (she gets her smarts from her concubine mother, you see). The ScenariosThere are six scenarios for male and female rulers to each select from, which may be expanded later depending on demand.
Some of the scenarios may not necessarily make sense for certain starts, particularly for the lady rulers, but I'll leave it to the player to decide what is appropriate or not. Hey, who knows?

Maybe your warrior princess managed to convince the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire to a duel and agree to give up his titles on the condition of his death. Might make a little more sense for a pagan shieldmaiden to take control of a small, forgotten Norse province, but I'm not judging! It's your story! Set-UpThere's not much to it. Enable the mod at start up and make sure you add the trait 'A Sensible New Family' in the character customizer.

Alternatively, if you don't have the customizer (why??), you can command console it in with the addtrait command ('anewfamily'). Don't worry, the trait is hidden once the game starts, so you won't have to stare at it for too long. Feel free to add in other traits at this stage too (though they won't get checked by the mod, so you may be a black sheep of the family if you go too nuts).Once the game starts, you will have a decision available called 'Create Your Dynasty' which you want to then click on.
This will trigger a one-time event which will allow you to select your character's origin story. That choice then runs a second, third, and fourth event (all invisible to you!) that ultimately creates your somewhat random family tree, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. A final narrative event fires, upon which the Sensible New Family trait is removed from your character. All that remains?
You and your lovely family! Watch out for dad, he might have rabies. Mod CompatibilityI did my best to make this as light-weight and flexible as possible. It should, in theory, work with any other mod. I personally use it with HIP and have no hiccups. This version can be used with CK2+, though will give you an invalid checksum report for now, though shouldn't cause any issues.
I am currently working on a CK2+ version to avoid that from happening. I have not tested this with other mods that merge you into an already existing family or house. I have no idea what result you'd end up with if you attempted such a travesty.Game of Thrones: At the moment, this mod does not seem to play well with A Game of Thrones mod without merging the two mods together.www.dropbox.com.
