It seems people have somehow misunderstood the elevator scene in TLJ. I watched a clip of it online and now that I am more focused after seeing the movie, I realize mostly everyone got it all wrong. In the hut when Rey reaches for Kylo's hand and they touch, they both saw a vision.
It was not a vision of the same thing but a Light and Dark one. I am not sure how some people concluded that. Kylo Ren saw Rey's parents. If you watch his expression, he is very emotional when he sees it too. Rey has tears streaming down her face because she sees him returning to the Light and becoming Ben Solo, the one who will save everyone.
In the elevator Rey confesses her vision, but Kylo did not say he saw her joining him. He said that seeing her parents and knowing who they were is why he was sure she would join him. He wanted her to lean on him, depend on him and was sure she would join him because she had no blood family left. He never saw her joining him at all. Rey proved that despite knowing the truth, it was not enough to make her take his hand. Her vision of him becoming Ben Solo hasn't happened yet. That's in the future.
Ok this is his quote exactly. 'I SAW something too. Because of what I SAW I know when the moment comes you will be the one to turn.
You'll stand with me. Rey I SAW your parents.' Nothing in that quote is him saying he saw her standing with him. He saw her parents and thinks that what he knows will be enough for her to be with him, which leads us to the throne room scene. Rian said Kylo wanted Rey to lean on him, but Kylo failed to realize she was not as alone as she told him and did not need him because she had worthless parents. She had a new family in BB-8, Finn and Leia.
But it is true that Kylo does not directly state he saw Rey standing with him, as he does with claiming to have seen her parents. Absence of evidence is weak evidence of absence. And if he did actually see her turning, 'I saw something too. Because of what I saw I know when the moment comes you will be the one to turn.' Seems like a rather roundabout and unlikely way to say it. Adding 'Rey, I saw your parents.' At the end in that context also seems to be specifying exactly what he saw.And moreover, seeing her parents - if his account of their identities is true - seems to be unrelated to the actual event of Rey's turning.
So the likely conclusion is either that Kylo saw 2 different visions (why would that be?) or that his vision was about Rey's parents.(Further note: Since Snoke claims to have initiated Kylo and Rey's connection, this makes the validity of their visions suspect. Though including their discussion just to be invalidated minutes afterward seems like a waste, so these are probably at least mostly genuine.). Each saw the other joining their side, but what if the message was that they should work together. That's a much more interesting and convoluted answer. We saw how powerful they are together.
Snoke tells us Kylo no longer has doubts now that Rey is with him. Rey has that 'firey spit of hope' and the heart of a true jedi even against Snoke and all his guards.My interpretation, although I admit it could defintely be wrong, is that from the moment Rey boarded Supremacy, everyone said what they believed to be the truth. Snoke, Rey, and Kylo. That throne room was a smelter that burned away doubts and produced a different Rey and Kylo from when they entered.Edit - Kylo now knows that he and Rey need to be together, he even begs her to join him.
His 'please' was desperation, not an order. Rey no longer has to lie to herself about her parents and believes she can bring Kylo back.
That is one hell of a beginning for Ep IX.
