But its also quite flawed.Here's my situation: I have horrible memory with words and numbers (i have excellent visual memory though. Seriously, i freak people out.) as well as lists. You ask me to memorize any list of anything and i WILL NOT remember it.Which makes efficient soultrapping quite a b.tch, pardon my french.
I mean, in oblivion theres no way to know what kind of soul you get when you soul trap. Theres also no way to know what soul you'll get from a kill before you actually kill it, which is why i was using the souls list on UESP.Here's my dillema: How, THE HECK, do you effeciently soul trap? Tell me your tips, tricks, show me your mods.
Anything that can help me easily know what soul ill get/i got from a kill. I mean i like Oblivion a lot more than Skyrim, but the one thing they did (almost) get right with skyrim is soul trapping. When you get a soul it tells you exactly what size of soul you got. That alone is massively helpfull. And then theres the pretty much must-have mod 'Acquisitive Soulgems' which makes it so you'll never waste a soul gem again.
But as far as i know there is no such mod for oblivion.I got a whole bunch of soul gems in my inventory. Pettys, lessers, commons, azura's star, you name it. Most of them are wasted because oblivion dosnt help you soul trap efficiently. Hell, if anything, its trying to make it harder.So anyway. Tips, tricks, mods, console commands, throw everything you got (that can help me) at me. You can Soul Trap summons, so:. Summon the strongest thing you can for 10-15 seconds, preferably somewhere you can push it off a fall to it's death.
Cast a Soul Trap spell on it (summons only turn hostile on the 3rd hostile spell or physical attack). Push it over the edge to it's death (walking into something & pushing it off a cliff isn't considered hostile). Profit!N.B.
This methodology means you can create custom summon spells labelled by the size of the soul you can trap, & you have near complete control over when your soul gems are filled, though it does also tend to level Conjuration & Mysticism.

Soul Harvester allows you to more intelligently trap souls into soul gems, helping you to avoid accidentally trapping a soul into a soul gem which is too large for it, effectively wasting that gem. If you are familiar with 'Smart Souls' or 'Acquisitive Souls Gems', this feature is very similar - and, once you train your Conjuration skill enough, it is the same as having one of those mods installed. A Conjuration skill of 20 will allow you to tell if you don't have a matching soul gem for a soul you are trying to trap, as soon as you cast the spell and before you finish off the target and capture the soul. This gives you a chance to let the effect expire on the target, or drop the larger gems you don't want to waste by capturing the soul, or even acquire a matching soul gem somehow.Importantly, note that you can enable the full Smart Souls functionality immediately in the MCM, if you don't want to screw around with the leveling.Finally, Soul Harvester does one more thing: it fixes the bug where a partially-filled Soul Gem can be 'emptied out' by dropping it into the world (and, that partially-filled gems don't correctly stack). With Soul Harvester, if you capture a soul into too large a gem, there is no getting it back out. What it does:Acquisitive Soul Gems changes the way soul-trapping works in Skyrim so that you'll never 'waste' a soul gem again, such as by trapping a petty soul into a grand gem, or a common soul into a greater gem, etc. With this mod, petty souls only go into petty gems, lesser souls only go into lesser gems, and so on.
If you try to trap a soul, but you don't have any gems of the right size, you'll just fail to trap the soul. So for example, if you try to trap a common soul, but you only have an empty greater gem, then when that creature dies its soul will escape rather than partially fill the greater gem like it normally would in Skyrim.It also changes black gems, including the Black Star, so that they only hold black (i.e. Human and elf) souls, not the souls of creatures. I made this exception because a very common use of Azura's Star is for recharging weapons without caring what the size of the soul is, and it's hard really to waste a reusable gem anyway.
