If standing too long in a spot where an Angel cannot harm the player using its magic volley, it will inflict curse damage on the player. The overall design of the Angel is reminiscent of the from Dark Souls 1 due to it being a winged creature that attacks the player with projectiles which inflict magic damage. Angels bear some similarities to the from Dark Souls 2.Angel GalleryAngel Variations.

I was watching Vampire hunter d: bloodlust, and I noticed something worth mentioning. For those who don't know what vampire hunter is, imagine Castlevania set in a post-apocalyptic future where vampires rule the world and monsters run amok, and the protagonist is basically Alucard with a cyborg horse. In the movie, there's this guy, Grove, who is this comatose-looking man in this band of vampire hunters. At some point in the movie, he uses this drug that sends him in some sort of sleeping state where he summons a spectral looking version of himself, who float around, smiling, shooting out light beams in the same fashion of Londor Angels, like identical.

I don't know if it was the inspiration behind the Angels, but considering Bloodborne overall design seems inspired by Vampire hunter D, I think is a possibility.

The Soulsverse is a dark world.

Everything about it is generally tarnished, rotten, decaying, or falling apart - a world at the end of its life, desperately hanging on with the last vestiges of hope before either being reborn or fading out completely. We only get a few passing references to the 'angels,' beings of a sort never really seen before in the Soulsverse. Angels are typically shown as holy, clean, powerful, divinely inspired, and righteous. But this isn't a typical setting. I'm really curious how they'll go with it - in a way, you almost expect them to be half-dead, broken winged, brutal warrior messengers with a focus on miracles. But imagine the opposite - imagine if they're exactly like we've expected them to be. I think that possibility is just as terrifying because of the implications of it. Everything we've seen so far indicates that everything is tied to the First Flame - either feeding off of it, or trying to snuff it out. We have the encroaching Abyss, which only seems to subside through the power of Fire, and every land, kingdom, and so on we see is impacted by the fading fire, up to and including the very Gods themselves. But imagine the implications of a power that is beyond the Fire and the Abyss, who's warriors are unaffected by the fading flames, and untainted by the Abyss.

In a world that seems to be on the very last legs of its life, even with the relinking of the fire, is it any wonder that people might gravitate towards worship of such beings? We know that the worship of Angels was forbidden in Lothric, but we also know that the royal family was keenly aware of the Cycle, since they specifically raised their prince to become a Lord of Cinder. Their entire kingdom was staked on it.

So acknowledging, and allowing worship, of a being, force, or place that was beyond the fire would be considered the highest blasphemy.Lordran, Drangleic, and Lothric had their gods, real flesh and blood gods that lived and ruled in among the people (to some extent). But angels imply something they serve - a being or force beyond them.I'm ready to be freaked out by seeing Angelic imagery through the twisted lens of the Soulsverse. I'm equally as freaked out by what it would imply about the world to see the stark contrast of really traditional looking angels as well.Sorry that got kind of rambling.

It also makes sense, lore-wise - Frampt was all about convincing folk to link the Flame and continue Gwyn's legacy, extending the Age of Fire as long as practicable. Given Lothric's apparent opposition to the idea of linking the flame, Frampt's doctrine may have been seen as heresy.I'd be really curious to see how much of Lothric Castle and its lore is from the days before Princes Lothric and Lorian linked the fire, or afterwards when they awoke as Lords of Cinder. It was clear that, before they linked the fire, the royal family was all about linking the fire, even going to great lengths to create a suitable heir to do it - even though that resulted in Lothric, who was clearly less than ideal. He linked the fire at some point - but on revival, or maybe even before then, but not in a position to oppose it, has since turned away from it. Actually it's very much implied that Darklink Shrine shows the cycle that Lothric was supposed to Link the fire in.

Angel

When you come back from the Untended Graves, Ludleth starts talking about how nobody linked the fire and so he willed himself a lord of cinder and linked the fire. The implication I get is that Lothric was supposed to link the fire in that timeline and never did, so the world entered another dark age. At some point, Ludleth decided it was time for that to end, so he linked the fire bringing forward the current age we have. Now we have the flame dying out again, and Lothric still refusing to link the flame.

Hence the other lords rising again. That theory makes little sense specifically because we literally watch him go into an Embered state. Same as the other three Lords we fight. He also still has a throne, which he wouldn't have if he was going to Link the Fire. Thrones are for Lords, people who have already linked the flame.Lothric's soul specifically was used to Link the Flame at some point. Whether he hesitated and his brother went in his place which linked them both, or some other series of events, the very foundation of the plot and what we know of the Lords makes the idea that he didn't become a Lord entirely wrong.
